Our Protect the Wild Campaign continues to focus on raising awareness of how industrial developments are transforming wild places like Sandwood Bay, which could be affected by proposals for a wind farm at Kinlochbervie. Protecting and restoring wild places
At Glenlude, our award-winning partnership with Phoenix Futures entered its 14th year, and celebrated with a sunny planting day in the Phoenix Forest. Read more. Our Nevis team has been sharing skills with the latest cohort of UHI countryside ranger students – who recently graduated and received their John Muir Award certificates. While over on Skye, we're targetting young Sitka that are sprouting up in our native woodland at Keppoch. Find out more about invasive non native species and how to tackle them.
Connecting people to wild places
The John Muir Trust is inviting tenders from suitably qualified and experienced individuals, or organisations, to undertake a comprehensive signage and access audit of the John Muir Way, one of Scotland’s Great Trails. Find out more.
We are delighted to announce our 2026 Connect Outdoor partners – view them here. Through Connect Outdoors and partnerships with organisations including Tiso and Mhor Outdoor, we continue working to remove barriers and help more people experience and care for wild places.
Schiehallion was drizzly and the cloud base low, however, at this year's John Muir Trust staff gathering, our team spirits were high. We enjoyed discussing the Wild Places Index - a tool we are developing to give an objective analysis of the spectrum of wildness, based on a global scale, and how it changes over time.
